Waterfalling in the UP - Eagle River, Haven, and Jacob's Falls

We left from the Magnuson Copper Crown on day 3. Our next stop was to take a look on Five Mile Point Road for what used to be my great uncle's cottage. Unfortunately, we had no luck finding it. So we continued on to Eagle River Falls and Dam. It is a beautiful spot. The old road is what you can walk out on to view the dam and the falls. It is a steep drop looking down over the bridge so I teased Logan and threatened to toss my phone over. He was a little shocked, but he was mostly like "well it's your phone so not my problem." The bridge itself is very rustic and beautiful. It has a large curved structure and gorgeous brown color.

Next, we headed to Jacob's Falls which is just off the road. It is also a fun spot to try your hiking skills and go farther upstream. It's a very pretty, peaceful spot.

After we visited Jacob's Falls, we stopped at Great Sand Bay for swimming in Lake Superior. Now mind you, it's September 13th...it's cold...it was also windy. It was not a smart idea, but it was fun. We changed in the bathrooms in the park by Great Sand Bay and I ran into the water. Logan barely walked in. Our teeth were chattering from the icy water, but I felt like a kid again so I wasn't giving it up very quickly. I made Logan suffer a good 20 minutes or more in the water. Then, we got out and toweled off and while we dried, we searched for pretty or interesting rocks. We snagged a couple of little ones to take home. After jumping in the car and cranking the heat, we headed to Lac La Belle area to see Haven Falls and find a place to eat. We first stopped at Haven Falls. It is a little trickle down a rock wall and has a nice park area. If only we would've brought coal and a lighter, could've had a cookout too. We also took a little hike up the side of this one to explore a little ways upstream.

We went to eat at Bear Belly Bar and Grill, which based on the reviews from Yelp seemed maybe sketchy, but it was a nice, clean place with a beautiful view of Lac La Belle and good food. Next, we continued on to Copper Harbor. We checked into our cabin at Keweenaw Mountain Lodge, which my parents tell me my Great Grandfather helped build some of the stone walls in that area. The cabins were really cute and nice and private. We were meant to eat dinner at the lodge then after a little more adventuring, but neither of us checked the closing time of the lodge and we ended up getting back to the lodge after our next set of sights and they had just closed the restaurant. We asked if there was a place they'd recommend in the area and they said the Mariner North was very good. So we headed there and had an amazing albeit expensive meal there. The sights we saw that evening were Hunter's Point Park, Manganese Falls, and Brockway Mountain Lookout.

Manganese Falls

Hunter's Point Park was our next stop. This place was a lot of unexpected fun. It is not very busy so you get to take a little trail adventure almost on your own. It is very pretty because it is right along the coast of Lake Superior.

Brockway Mountain Lookout

Tried to capture panorama, failed a little...

See ya next time!
